LinkedIn Is About To Explode. Here's What To Do About It.

Originally published on July 26, 2022.

LinkedIn is about to explode.

Creators have joined looking for a new platform to showcase their portfolio. Millennials and Gen Z have created new accounts to look for new job opportunities. The platform is buzzing with talk of personal brands and passion projects. Posts are going viral of people starting new businesses. Communities are forming. Authenticity is the chief value of a new generation.

Exciting things are happening.

Just a few weeks ago, a recruiter by the name of Nathan Saldo wrote, "Dear every manager: If you think I'm trying to steal your employees...I am. Every comment I make on their post. Every like. Every thumbs up. I am. Sleep well tonight." Included in the post was a selfie of him wearing sunglasses. The result? Over 100,000 people reacted to the post. He went from 3,000 followers to roughly 42,000 followers in 6 days. The potential reach on this platform is getting noticed.

On Twitter, several influencers have noticed the move to LinkedIn.

Four days ago Alex Llull, a freelance content writer with over 28,000 followers wrote, "I've only heard good things about LinkedIn lately. More reach. Huge demand for content. I guess it's time to see for myself!"

Clearly, if you just log on to LinkedIn when you need a job, you're missing out. I believe this is just the beginning of an explosion on LinkedIn.

Here's what you need to do to be a part of it.

Clean Up Your Profile

Many profiles don't have a banner or a profile picture. If that's you, change it immediately. You can design something in Canva or use a photo from Unsplash for free. Update your headline to describe what you do and what you're passionate about.

Start Hitting Publish More Often

Pretty simple right? Currently, only 1% of users on LinkedIn post. Compare that to 87% on Instagram. Start by posting on a regular basis: daily, every other day, or weekly. Post content relevant to your niche, area of work, or expertise.

Worry about the quality later. Start posting NOW.

Connect with Influencers in Your Niche or Industry

Take some time to find with influencers in your niche/industry. Find those with 10k followers and up. If you go onto their profile, you will see a little bell in the right hand corner under their banner. Once you click it you will get notifications of when they post.

The purpose of this is so that you can...

Engage! Engage! Engage!

Start commenting on their posts immediately after you get a notification that they've posted. Say something intelligent and that is relevant to the post/conversation. You also want to connect with and engage with accounts similar to yours. Spend 20-30 minutes engaging with other posts each day.

Connect with Others in the DMs

If you're already engaging with other posts, it should be simple to reach out in a message and introduce yourself to those you're engaging with. Ask if they'd be interested in hopping on a call and getting acquainted - no strings attached. Genuine connections are the currency of LinkedIn.

Start taking action today. After 2-3 months, you will start seeing results. Stay consistent and enjoy the journey.
